Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (HMD) successfully delivered its first LPG carrier on August 22nd. HMD held a naming ceremony for Hull No. 8005, a 20,600m³LPG carrier for Zodiac Maritime of the United Kingdom. HMD received an order for three LPG carriers from Zodiac in July of 2006. At the ceremony the vessel was named Navigator Aries by the shipowner, Navigator Gas.

The ship, which measures 160m in length, 25.6m in width, 16.4m in depth, and has a service speed of 16 knots, will sail to the Middle East for its first shipment after a final gas trial. Two Bi-Lobe-type LPG tanks, made of a special steel that can withstand temperatures of -50, have been successfully loaded onto the ship. The delivery date, which was originally scheduled for December, was moved up to August due to HMD’s world-class technology. HMD currently has 11 LPG carriers in its backlog, all of which are 20,600m³ and 35,000m³ class ships.
