HMD clinched an order to build six 50,000 DWT world’s first product carriers that can both run on bunker C fuel oil and methanol from Westfal-Larsen and Marinevest in November 2013. The ships measuring 186.0 m LOA, 32.2 m beam, and 19.1 m depth are scheduled to be built from July 2015 and expected to be delivered by June 2016.
With the growing demand for clean marine fuel to live up to environmental regulations coming into effect in Northern Europe and other regions and increasing marine fuel prices, methanol, a sulfur-free fuel, can become a promising alternative fuel for ships.
