HMD Gains New World-Class Product Certificate on 12,000 cbm Ethylene Carrier

HMD won an additional certificate of World-Class Product for an 12,000 cbm ethylene carrier by the end of last year. As of 2016, HMD took up about 31.4% of global ethylene carrier market share.

The certificate winning ethylene carrier measures 147 meters in length, 22.6 meters in width and 12.6 meters in height with a capacity of carrying 12,000 cbm ethylene with three cryogenic containment tanks.  

World-Class Product is a policy where Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy selects products that have over 5% global market share, rank within the Top 5 in their market, and have an international market worth over USD 50 million with exports of USD 5 million annually.

With the addition of the certificate, HMD strengthens its standing in the global medium-sized shipbuilding market with the certificate for eight different types of ships including ethylene carriers, LNG carriers and juice carriers.
