HMD Obtains the Approval in Principle for LNG Bunk
Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (HMD) obtained the approval in principle for an LNG bunkering vessel from Lloyd’s Register on June 3.
HMD had received the approval of LNG bunkering vessel from BV and ABS last year, which demonstrates that HMD is recognized for its basic design skills in LNG bunkering vessels.
HMD’s LNG bunkering vessel measures 119 m in length, 19.4 m in width, and 10.6 m in height, and is equipped with two cargo tanks carrying 6.600 m3 of LNG.
The vessels contain a dual-fuel engine, which saves energy by using boil-off gas as fuel. Also it is equipped with a reliquefaction unit to increase cargo storage efficiency.
The vessel has a loading arm on the deck to safely connect the fuel piping line when refueling at sea. In view of IMO’s toughening regulations on NOx emission, HMD expects the demand of LNG bunkering vessels to increase.
Heavy fuel oil can be replaced with LNG which is more economical and can reduce the emission of SOx, NOx, and CO2 meeting the IMO standards.
