Entering a new year, HMD held its first naming ceremony in 2003. Last year, HMD delivered a total of 24 ships.
This year’s first naming ceremony was held Jan. 7 for a 37,000dwt product/chemical tanker (H0105) ordered by Geden Lines of Turkey in Aug. 2002. President Yu Kwan-hong of HMD, Mr. Bob Malone, CEO of BP Shipping Limited, the charterer of the ship, and participants from its owner, Laliotis Maritime, and other guests were in attendance.
The ship was christened British explorer and delivered to its owner, Laliotis Maritime of Greece. Laliotis Maritime, established in 1970, is one of the prominent shipping companies in Greece having a handymax and panamax tanker fleet. British measures 183m in length, 37m in width, and 17m in depth. Equipped with a 12,000-bhp engine, she has a service speed of 15 knots.
HMD will deliver a total of 36 vessels this year.
