BP has confirmed six options for 46,000dwt product/chemical tankers worth around $165 mil. that it was holding at HMD, bringing its total order for this size of vessel at HMD to 12. The contract was signed on March 17, 2003. These latest six vessel are due for delivery in 2005 and in early 2006. BP opted to go it alone on MR product/chemical tankers late last year, after a charter backed newbuilding deal did not materialize. BP returned to HMD, has also signed the contract for one ice class 1A 37,000dwt product/chemical tanker with OMI on March 25, 2003. Contracts with OMI for two of the identical vessels has been announced previously.
