HMD was granted international integration management system certificates for ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001. On August 20, certificate delivery ceremony was held at HMD’s grand hall.
Since being certified with ISO 9001 in 1997, HMD has obtained all certificates stablished by International Standardization Organization (ISO) for safety / health, environment and quality assurance.
ISO 14001 is granted to environmentally friendly companies that conform to international environment standards.
Company activities that involve raw material procurement to manufacturing, distribution, and sales, as well as product and service sectors must have systems to minimize industrial waste, air/water-pollution, vibration and noise.
Furthermore, according to OHSAS 18001 companies are required to reduce risk of onsite accidents and manage health-related matters systematically. OHSAS 18001 was drafted by 13 standards organizations around the world, led by BSI, in 1999.
Major shipping companies regard ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 as the most important prerequisite for shipyards in placing orders. As a matter of fact, HMD’s efforts for safety, health and environment played a big role in winning British BP Shipping’s bulk order last year.
Integration management system means integrating quality, safety/health and environment systems and developing advanced management system through work standardization.
This system certificate is obtained after companies pass through strict documentation and field examination. “This certification has become an opportunity to upgrade every aspect of our company according to global standards” said Yu Kwan-hong, president of HMD.
He expects “to build more favorable stand in taking orders on the basis of improved international confidence.”
