Blue Marlin, the biggest heavy load carrier in the world, came into HMD for conversion at 29th of September, 2003.

HMD was awarded the project by Dockwise at about USD26mil. in keen competition with world-wide shipyards.

After modification, Blue Marlin is to have 40% more transportation capability than before through 21m widening, the installation of additional propulsion, upgrading of the ballast system, and so on.

HMD has prepared for this conversion project organizing a special task fore, having a work-process meeting every week, holding a work-plan presentation shortly after receiving an order last year.

HMD completed a similar conversion of Dockwise’s semi-submersible heavy lift vessel in 1998. Then, the ship was widened by 10 m, and lengthened by 30 m.

Dockwise is a specialist heavy transport shipping company with a versatile fleet of 14 semi-submersible vessel.

HMD has signed for two cable laying newbuildings and one conversion with Dockwise so far and HMD and Dockwise have kept good relationship with each other.
