Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (HMD) held a naming ceremony for a 47,000-dwt product / chemical tanker, the first ship ordered by British Petroleum Shipping Ltd., on April 7, 2004.

In the presence of Mr. C. K. Kim, executive vice president of HMD, Mr. Ian Vann, vice president of BP Group and other guests, the tanker was named British Tenacity by Mrs. Anne Vann, a sponsor of this project and wife of Mr. Ian Vann.

British Tenacity was the first of twelve 47,000-dwt product / chemical tankers ordered by British Petroleum at the end of 2002. The tanker is powered by a Hyundai-B&W engine of 12,900bhp and measures 183m in length, 32.2m in width and 18.8m in depth with a service speed of 15.2 knots.

Meanwhile, the tanker was delivered on April 14, 2004, 77 days sooner than the contractual delivery date, despite strict rules regarding safety and health applied to the ship.
