HMD received an appreciation plaque for its contribution in developing the jangsaengpo region at the opening ceremony of “The Jangsaengpo Welfare and Culture Hall” on November 13.

Commercial hunting of whales was banned from the area since 1986 and because of this the economy has been stagnant for same time. However HMD established a large block fabrication shop in Jangsaengpo in 2004, which created about 300 jobs. The establishment of the shop also helped to revive the whale museum and whale research institute.
