HMD received conversion work orders for four PCTCs including options for two ships on January 12 from Eukor Car Carriers. The Contract follows the successful construction of a similar project at Hyundai-Vinashin Shipyard (HVS) on October 2005.
This project will also be conversion at HVS and entail elongation of the ship’s length by 28.8m and installation of bow thrusters. After the conversion the ships will have a capacity of 7,740 units from the existing 6,400, a 21% increase. HMD now has 14 PCTC elongation projects in its backlog including eight from Wallenius Marine AB of Sweden and six from Eukor Car Carriers.
