The World’s First Ship with High Manganese Steel LNG Fuel Tank
Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (HMD) won an order to build the world’s first 50,000 DWT bulk carrier installed with a high manganese steel LNG fuel tank from Ilshin Ferry in June.
The carrier will be equipped with a dual fuel engine that uses both bunker C fuel and LNG fuel, and a high manganese LNG fuel tank, which was first developed by POSCO, a multinational steelmaking company in Pohang, Korea.
The high manganese steel developed by POSCO is strong even at ultra-low temperatures and is low in cost.
