Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Wins LNG Bunkering Vessel
Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (HMD) won an order to build a 7,500m3 LNG bunkering vessel for hamburg-based Bernhard Schulte on November 30.
LNG bunkering vessel is specially designed to supply LNG-fuelled vessels with LNG without being dependent on a fixed bunker location. The vessel, measuring 117 meters in length, 20 meters in width and 10.3 meters in height, is scheduled to be handed over by the second half of 2018.
Mr. Kang Wong-sik, the head of HMD labor union, said “We are grateful for Bernhard Schulte’s order. As the head of HMD’s labor union, we will make utmost efforts to build a quality ships and deliver it on time.” at the signing ceremony.
An official from Schulte remarked, “Despite current sluggish global shipbuilding market, the harmonious cooperation between HMD and its labor union brought trustworthiness to us.”
As the demand for eco-friendly LNG-fuelled ships is likely to see upwards trends for years to come thanks to IMO’s strengthening maritime regulations, the likelihood that HMD will firm up an option that Schulte can order a similar ships will increase accordingly.
