HMD has clinched a contract to build two new 45,000 DWT product/chemical tankers for a first-class Saudi Arabian shipowner. The contract was signed by HMD and Bakri Navigations Company Ltd at a ceremony held at HMD's head office in Ulsan, Korea on 14th October 2000. The ships have an overall length of 183 meters, with a breadth of 32.2 meters and a depth of 18.2 meters. They will be equipped with a 12,870bhp Hyundai B&W main engine, providing a service speed of 15 knots. The vessels are scheduled for delivery to the buyer in the 1st quarter of 2003. The contract, strengthens HMD's position in the medium sized product/chemical tanker market.
